NIS0016 Luz – Isabel Rato

Isabel Rato launches her third studio album called „Luz“ in May 2022 (Nischo Records).
The album is deeply inspired by the omnipresence of impermanence of our current times, but also by a real hope for the present and the future. As a pianist, composer, arranger and producer in the realms of Portuguese jazz, her music visits musical universes ranging from jazz to traditional Portuguese folk music with deep influences of classical music.
The album features special guest appearances by vocalists Cristina Branco and Sofia Vitória as well as the Portuguese string quartet Quarteto Arabesco.

Isabel Rato has become one of the most prominent female references in Portuguese jazz, representing a new generation of composers from Portugal.
Her second studio album “Historias do Céu e da Terra” (Nischo Records) was considered one of the best national jazz albums in 2019 by Jazz.pt magazine.

Bio

Born in Lisbon in 1981, Isabel Rato has become a household name in the Portuguese jazz panorama as a pianist, composer, arranger and producer.
She holds a degree in Jazz Piano from the Escola Superior de Música in Lisbon, having been taught and mentored by Portuguese pianist João Paulo Esteves da Silva and visited masterclasses with renowned piano references like John Taylor, Fred Hersch, Enrico Pieranunzi, Joshua Redman, Hal Gerper, Kenny Werner and Albert Bover, amongst others.

After launching her first two albums, “Para Além da Curva da Estrada” (2016, Sintoma Records) and “Historias do Céu e da Terra” (2019, Nischo Records), she has now released her third studio album “Luz” on the 1st of May, 2022.
