In Search Of Light – Eduardo Cardinho

Eduardo Cardinho presents his new album In Search Of Light, recorded in July 2018, accompanied by Dutch saxophonist Ben Van Gelder and Portuguese accordionist João Barradas.
In addition to the outstanding jazz line-up, some of the pieces were also recorded with a classical string quartet (Ana Ribeiro and Miguel Simões (violins), Joana Nunes (viola) and Fernando Costa (cello) as well as electronics in real time by Igor Silva.

Cardinho composed the tunes for his new album entirely during his prolonged stay in Amsterdam, where he lived for 2 years. His music is bright and energetic while he joins his outstanding technical abilities on the vibraphone with his very own concept of composition by layering different sounds.
The result is a deep awereness of how music can inspire the world.

The vibraphonist has been asserting himself as an outstanding young talent in the Portuguese jazz scene since 2016, when he released his debut album Black Hole, which was critically acclaimed and considered one of the best jazz records of the year.

“In the history of jazz we rarely see a vibraphone assume the role of the leader. Eduardo Cardinho is an honourable Lusitanian exception to this rule, who – even in his young age – gives people something to talk about” – Nuno Catarino, Público (4/5 star review)

“The importance that was given to the production becomes evident in the general configuration of the music that we listen to: the jazz that appears here has traits of refined chamber music, but not because the composition is dominating. What matters is the way that the writing translates into a collective sound, be it by improvisation or by the interpretative performance. (…) Cardinho wanted to focus his attention as a composer on the harmonics and in this aspect the record is a success” – Rui Eduardo Paes, Jazz.pt
